Contemporary Design from Kartell
Glamorous, functional and creative are just a few of the words which describe the work of the Italian design company Kartell. Established in 1949 by Giulio Castelli the company has become a world leader in the design world and enjoyed over half a decade of success.
Kartell became famous in 1955 when a successful partnership with Gino Colombini helped the company to sin its first Compasso d'Oro award. In the plastic loving era of the 60s and 70s, Kartell's innovative use of plastic as a design material went down a storm and sealed the companys success.
Over the years the company has worked in collaboration with famous and talented designers such as Philippe Starck, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, Antonio Citterio, Maeerten Van Severen and a wwhole host of others. One of the most recognisable pieces of Kartell design is the Ghost Chair which was designed by Philippe Starck and went on to be a timeless contemporary classic.
In its 60 years of history, Kartell has won a huge amount of awards including nine Compasso d'Oro awards as well as many international prizes. In the year 2000, Kartell's design of the Guggenheim Museum was awarded the Best Industrial Museum and became better known as the Kartell Museum!
